The Youth Action Againist Trafficking (YAAT) project will substantially reduce trafficking in women and children for labor and sexual exploitation in the Lao PDR and to contribute to current efforts in the Greater-Mekong Sub Region, through the engagement of youth and with a focus on outreach and awareness raising, at the national, provincial and regional levels.

The Youth Action Against Trafficking project has the following purpose:
To raise awareness of the risks and dangers of the trafficking in women and children in selected communities using existing village-based schools and other networks and through new Youth Groups to disseminate information and to conduct trainings in cooperation with counterparts and other key government officials;

    • To increase and enhance youth (with focus on young women) participation in anti-trafficking efforts—especially at the local level—and to build community capacities, as an educative, preventive and protective strategy to combat trafficking;
    • To use new and creative technologies to get anti-trafficking messages out to as many vulnerable people and communities as possible;
    • To link with regional initiatives with common objectives (i.e. AsiaACTs, other partners of TDH-Netherlands

Direct beneficiaries will be selected Lao youth capable of serving as trainers against trafficking, for their communities and others. This group will emphasize the participation of girls, will recruit young people between the ages of 15-25, and will be limited to approximately 50-60. These youth trainers will, however, link directly to 10,000+ beneficiaries through information and education campaigns, including radio, community theatre, and the dissemination of other information materials.
