ECONOMIC JUSTICE

The goal of the fair trade movement is to improve the position of disadvantaged producers in developing countries.  Fair trade ensures that farmers and workers are paid and treated fairly and that healthy environmental practices are upheld.  International consumers make a strong statement when they opt to purchase fair trade products.  Profits from fair trade are invested in communities and local development instead of large corporations.

Good working conditions and decent wages are essential to reducing poverty and promoting the growth of civil, democratic society and economy.  Also, fair trade can help promote and revive local pride in the traditional arts and foods of different cultures.

VFI has develops and maintains relationships with fair trade producers in Laos, Cambodia, India, and bridges to the growing international fair trade market.
