Weaves of Cambodia
Goal: To create livelihood opportunities for amputee survivors of land mine
explosions in Preah Vihear, a remote province controlled by the Khmer Rouge
until 1999.
Context: Cambodia remains full of an estimated 6 million unexploded land
mines, most designed to maim instead of kill. As a result, many Cambodians are
missing limbs due to mine explosions, severely limiting their job opportunities and ability to support their families. In partnership with weaving expert Carol Cassidy of
Lao Textiles, Weaves of Cambodia is a successful business run by these victims of war, who weave fine Cambodian silk that is exported internationally to high-end consumers.
Target Group: Land mine survivors in Preah Vihear, Cambodia
